Chapter Seven

“Are you going to run again, little ferret?” Saber finally spoke.

The werewolf’s voice sounded like gravel, so rough and more animal than human. Rusty wasn’t spooked, but never before was he so embarrassed his entire life. When he first slipped inside Saber’s apartment a week ago, he told himself that would be the first and last time.

Like an addict unable to shake off his obsession, Rusty kept coming back. One spoon was worthless. He wanted Saber’s clothes. If Orange noticed his growing collection of stolen clothing, his best friend never mentioned it.

Still, Saber suggesting he would run annoyed the hell out of him. Rusty pushed his anger aside and tried to see the situation in Saber’s perspective. Understandably, the werewolf was pissed, but he had no idea why Rusty kept his distance.

Rusty had worked out Saber’s schedule. To be fair, the big wolf posted it on his fridge. Rusty would slip in once Saber was gone and make himself at home. Right now, Saber should still be at the gym. Rusty would give anything to see his magnificent wolf flexing those muscles, but he settled for breaking and entering.

Wereferrets hardly left any scent behind, making them lethal weapons. Perfect for thieving, as Rusty’s old mentor used to say. Some part of him told him to slip out the way he entered, through the window by Saber’s bed. Rusty had spent plenty of time rolling in Saber’s sheets, rubbing his face against it like some kind of psycho.

Oh God. What if Saber thought he was some kind of dangerous stalker and filed a restraining order against him?

“Talk to me, little ferret,” Saber finally said.

Rusty wrinkled his nose, shocked he caught the telltale scent of copper. Why hadn’t he noticed that first? Without realizing what he was doing, he ran up to his werewolf. Finding the zipper of Saber’s hoodie, he yanked it down, speechless at the blood around Saber’s shirt. That looked suspiciously like a bullet wound.

“You’re hurt,” Rusty whispered, dumbstruck.

He should put a stop to this while he still could. Hurt Saber with poisoned words and get the fuck out of there. By coming to Saber’s apartment, he risked putting the werewolf in danger, but he couldn’t stop. His reasoning was flawed. If Saber didn’t even know he could slip in and out, the gangsters wouldn’t either. However, Saber was hurt.

Was it because of him? Did Rusty make a mistake somewhere?

Saber put those strong arms around his waist, drawing him close for an embrace.

All of Rusty’s rules about staying away from this particular lethal werewolf went out the window once their bodies touched. As if Rusty had never run, as if it was the most natural thing in the word, Saber tilted his head back and Rusty opened his lips to receive it. Rusty forgot why he approached Saber in the first place. It didn’t seem important.

Every nerve in his body woke. Blood rushed to his dick the more Saber touched him. The werewolf couldn’t keep his hands still, slipping them down Rusty’s loose sweatpants to cup his ass.
